چکیده

ÐThis paper presents a class of count-and-threshold mechanisms, collectively named -count, which are able to discriminate between transient faults and intermittent faults in computing systems. For many years, commercial systems have been using transient fault discrimination via threshold-based techniques. We aim to contribute to the utility of count-and-threshold schemes, by exploring their effects on the system. We adopt a mathematically defined structure, which is simple enough to analyze by standard tools. -count is equipped with internal parameters that can be tuned to suit environmental variables (such as transient fault rate, intermittent fault occurrence patterns). We carried out an extensive behavior analysis for two versions of the count-and-threshold scheme, assuming, first, exponentially distributed fault occurrencies and, then, more realistic fault patterns. A New Heuristic to Discriminate between Transient and Intermittent Faults

Effective discrimination between transient and permanent faults is a very important practical problem in (dependable) system design. A count-andthreshold mechanism named α-count, designed to discriminate between transient faults and intermittent faults in computing systems, is presented in an enhanced embodiment. It retains enough simplicity to allow exhaustive analysability through simple mode...

transformer differential protection using the fault-generated high-frequency transient components

Power transformers are the most important components of a power system, so their protection is a critical issue. This paper proposes a novel and efficient algorithm based on the high-frequency components of the differential current signal to discriminate between the magnetizing inrush currents and the internal faults. After detecting the over-current in the differential current signals, samples...

Artificial Intelligence Based Approach for Identification of Current Transformer Saturation from Faults in Power Transformers

Protection systems have vital role in network reliability in short circuit mode and proper operating for relays. Current transformer often in transient and saturation under short circuit mode causes mal-operation of relays which will have undesirable effects. Therefore, proper and quick identification of Current transformer saturation is so important. In this paper, an Artificial Neural Network...

Impact of Intermittent Faults on Nanocomputing Devices

Operation of semiconductor devices may be negatively affected by permanent, transient and intermittent faults. Nanocomputing devices are expected to experience higher error rates, in particular due to transient and intermittent faults. The errors induced by high energy particles, usually referred to as soft errors, have been extensively studied. However, similar errors may be induced by intermi...

One Terminal Digital Algorithm for Adaptive Single Pole Auto-Reclosing Based on Zero Sequence Voltage

This paper presents an algorithm for adaptive determination of the dead timeduring transient arcing faults and blocking automatic reclosing during permanent faults onoverhead transmission lines. The discrimination between transient and permanent faults ismade by the zero sequence voltage measured at the relay point. If the fault is recognised asan arcing one, then the third harmonic of the zero...
